2021-2025 Capacity Building Project

A three part project was initiated by the DHPA along with financial stakeholders; Industry Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (Federal & Provincial), Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and the Municipality of Digby.

The Capacity Building Project had a $3M budget and was comprised of the following:

• End Ell Floats- installation of floating docks along the north face of the End Ell. These floating docks ride up and down steel piles to accommodate the 28’ tides. One of the floating docks has electrical hookup for visiting large yachts. This installation gains the port a few additional berths and substantially increases the operational safety of vessel crews.
  
  
• Spur Wharf Approach Infill – this alternate access point to the Spur Wharf will help with congestion and eventually be a critical access when work is required on the Marginal Wharf.
  
  
• Pile Repairs under the 1967 Spur Wharf – The beginning of a multi-year plan to repair piles through a process of assessment, then cleaning, rejacketing, and pumping new concrete at designated locations.

Stakeholders recognize the critical importance of the Fisherman’s Wharf in Digby as essential infrastructure to the fishery sector in Southwest Nova Scotia. Digby is the last port on the Nova Scotia side of the Bay of Fundy to have water at low tide (wet port). Combined with the physical ability to expand, Digby is a prime location to invest and serve the region.
