2021-24 CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT

A three part project was initiated by the DHPA along with financial stakeholders; Industry Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (Federal & Provincial), Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, and the Municipality of Digby. The Capacity Building Project had a $3M budget and was comprised of the following:


  • End Ell Floats
  • Spur Wharf Approach Infill
  • Pile Repairs under the 1967 Spur Wharf

2018 BUSINESS & INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN

The Business and Infrastructure plan, completed by CBCL in January 2018, highlights the Port of Digby's substantial economic impact and strategic importance to the regional economy. Managed by the Digby Harbour Port Association (DHPA), the Port of Digby Fishermen’s Wharf, situated in the Annapolis Basin, serves as vital berthage and loading/unloading facilities for the largest fishing fleet on the Bay of Fundy.

CRUISE & YACHT VISITS

At the Port of Digby, we proudly accommodate cruise ships and yacht visits with a dedicated Marine Facility Security Officer ensuring vessel security and Transport Canada compliance. Over the years, we've welcomed notable vessels like the MV Balmoral and MV Quest for Adventure, facilitating passenger landings in our community. Smaller "pocket" cruise vessels, including those from Blount Small Ship Adventures and the MV Hebridean Sky, dock alongside to explore the charming Town of Digby.

Aquaculture in Digby, focusing on Atlantic salmon and Pacific oysters, is a thriving industry with substantial economic potential. Salmon farming, operational since 1994 in the Annapolis Basin, generates approximately $25 million annually, while oyster farming, utilizing methods such as release and bagging, supports sustainable practices and initiatives like those led by Bear River First Nation. Together, these ventures highlight Digby's role as a promising center for seafood production and sustainable maritime industries.
